The variety of characterization marks this as a film of breadth as well as depth. As in all of Ray's films, one emerges from the film a little kinder, a little more understanding of humanity and its frailness. The memory game, the scenes in the forest house, and the theme of rebelliousness coupled with unconscious tethers to one's past are masterfully directed.
