Anyhow, loved hearing your read on one of my favorite films especially re: the vanishing narration -- it really does tip Sautet&#039;s hand and I&#039;m now reconsidering all sorts of things.

I often feel that Stephane does begin to &#039;find an inner life&#039; at the movie&#039;s midpoint, and at the end our question is, has he wholly retreated again or not?
