Yeah, I sometimes wonder what the hell I am doing too.

The positives of this whole venture is that I discovered something I am truly passionate about, that being film obviously. The more films I watch, the more films I want to watch. I also believe I've learned a lot about the world, I learned more about Iran from watching Kiarostami films, than I ever would have watching the news.

The other great thing I've learned is to be open minded, there have been quite a few films that I was absolutely dreading having to watch, and they've become some of my favorites...Cabaret (who knew Liza Minnelli was talented?) springs to mind.

Oh and perhaps the greatest thing this list has provided is a possible career. I'm leaning heavily towards becoming a film archivist, whereas a year ago, I had no idea what I was going to with my life.

As for drawbacks, well, the time I spent watching films could have been spent making money, and it's probably negatively impacted some of my relationships, although that has been balanced by new friends I've made through my love of film.

Anyways, to all those who are on this endeavor, keep it up, it's worth it.

Peace, Justin

Thanks for the update Justin, and, uh, congratulations? Hope you've gotten something out of your viewing exploits other than a headlong rush towards completist satisfaction.

I've actually seen 993 of the films on the list, and should be up to 996 by the end of week. There's only 4 I can't seem to find: Tih Minh (though I might have a copy soon), L'Amour Fou, Scenes From Under Childhood, The Art of Vision.

But having watched the majority of the films in the past 15 months, quite a bit tends to blur together.

Hi! I have started my own goal to watch every film from the Top 1000, but I've only seen 100 or so films from it. In fact, I still haven't even seen Citizen Kane :(
Cheers!

"The only six films he hasn’t seen: Pakeeezah, My Neighbor Tortroro, Hart of London, the Iranian Still Life by Salesss, Ghatak’s Subarnareka, and Kaagaz ke Phool."

Amazingly, I've seen all of those but Hart of London, even though my total tally is only around 700. Pakeezah and Subarnarekha are among my all-time favorites.

I am making a documetary called The Indie Film Bloggers - http://indiefilmbloggersmovie.blogspot.com, about people who write about indie film on line & related matters. Let me know if you are interested in finding out more about the doc to see if you'd like to be interviewed for it. Thanks.

I relate to his sentiments. I'm often flabbergasted at some people's incredible recall for detail of films they may have seen some time ago- I have enough trouble keeping very much of the film I saw day before yesterday in memory. My mind is just not made that way. It's one reason I have no aspiration to be a "critic"- without that skill it would be like swimming upstream. Luckily I can still enjoy life as a cinephile, even without that kind of a memory.
