You should be updating your blog posts if you include youtube vidoes because they get removed after certain time so destroying the purpose of the post.

I've always been really intimidated by Schrader. I read his masters thesis and realized that I have no business writing a thesis of my own! It's interesting though...he's seems so keen on this "transcendental style" that he discusses in his book, and his films never seem to quite fit in. I'm still trying to work through him, while also being very afraid of his films for some reason. I don't know...they always make me so uncomfortable.

Hi and good to hear that you're workign through the list.

You can read about the differences between the two Brakhages on these pages. Essentially Art of Vision is a longer and more complex reworking of the same material in Dog Star Man:

http://www.fredcamper.com/Film/Brakhage7.html
http://www.sensesofcinema.com/contents/directors/02/brakhage.html

Part of Dog Star Man is available on the Criterion Brakhage boxset. There's an old out of print VHS from the 90s that you also might be able to get your hands on - that's how I saw it (it also plays at rep houses from time to time).

To my knowledge Art of Vision is only available on film print at select institutions. I plan to watch the film through one of those institutions later on.

Make Way for Tomorrow and There's Always Tomorrow can be found on bootleg vhs or perhaps even through online bittorrent or other file sharing sites. Otherwise they play periodically on TCM. The Hart of London exists only on film print as far as I know.

Hi! I'm also making my way through theyshootpictures.com top 1000 and I have a couple of questions. First off, what is the difference between Stan Brakhage's "The Art of Vision," and "Dog Star Man." Second, how do I see either movie? Third, if they're not on DVD on video, how do I see entries such as "Make May for Tomorrow," "There's Always Tomorrow," or "The Hart of London"?
