I don't think there's a Fellini film i've seen that i haven't liked, there's something about his brand of cinematic escapism that i find intoxicating. Plus, i love operatic singing (even though i can't sit through many operas). That said i don't recall too much of the film itself.

In the scene where the singers compete i'm slightly surprised you didn't comment on the fact that they're singing to workers, labourers even. Personally, i think the scene wonderfully encapsulates the idea of the arts overriding,; running roughshod over social and economic barriers. Back on the mainland those workers would never have the money to see these performers, and here they're privy to something never seen by the bourgeois in the theatres. That the performers' egos override notions of caste says it all really.
