I'm doing an essay on Teen violence and video games. My topic is video games do not cause violence thoughts and actions in teens. Do You believe this to be true, why or why not? Give me your opinions.

Another great video-essay! I like this film a lot, and I was quite puzzled by this fireball too when I saw it a few years back. And I have not seen this device in any other (realist) film, so it's difficult to figure out if it's pure poetry or if he mocospace.com wants to draw our attention on a particular meaning. I don't remember the details but I think I understood this "deus ex-machina" as an allegory of the "Big Brother" regime, which is allowed to sneak upon you, spy on you, judge you and try you (foreboding what he knows is going to happen later in the film).

One clue is that there is never a protagonist in the shots with the fireball. So it could be a different "dimension" we shouldn't take it as part of the realistic diegesis.

What's interesting also in this scene, is the various levels of storytelling. If I remember it right, the guy is finally revealing a family secret in public, that everyone wanted to ask. And he does so, in a childish way, for his child spectator. But he's really talking to the adults, who he'd rather not talk to so openly. And the blocking of this mini theatre stage (this interior window that doesn't give outside is a wonderful triptych frame-within-the-frame) is an ingenious go-between to spell out something by ricochet. On the surface it's just the recounting of his past to a child, but everyone know the events he refers to are to be blamed on some of the adults present (off-screen). Through this narrative diversion, he doesn't have to point fingers publicly.

Isn't the picture breaking up showing the family betrayal or rivalry between the 2 guys?

Another sequence I loved was the one by the riverside, with the flirting in the water and the irruption of the chemical warfare drill squad.
