You might be able to find an out of print VHS that was released many years ago by New Yorker Films (RIP). otherwise you could try the filesharing networks...

How did you come across this film!? I've been trying to find it everywhere with no such luck...

I'm also slowly working my way through TSPDT's top 1000 list.

I guess I was being a bit cryptic. I have been in a running debate over Islamic radicalism with some people who have been romanticizing Hizbollah, Hamas et al. I tend to identify more strongly with secular, leftist traditions that unfortunately have been scuttled in the Middle East. "Ceddo" is a reminder that Islam was not necessarily progressive when it came to polytheistic, village-based religions.

Thanks Louis - I'm glad that you caught my entry especially since I enjoyed your Sembene tribute for WBAI.

Your comment surprises me somewhat in that I wouldn't expect a need to undercut the image of Jihadism, at least not in the US. Are your observations based on what you've seen in some academic communities, or grassroots level, etc?

Excellent analysis of "Ceddo"!

One reason I value this film is that it undercuts the kind of romantic illusions in Jihadism found in certain sectors of the left. Islam could be very oppressive.
